Have you ever wondered who your neighbors were?
When CHIC Charity first started, it was natural for us to learn more about the organizations we could help. What we found out touched our hearts, and we knew we had to share it with our readers.
During our research, we got to meet 6 incredible local goodwill organizations that we wanted to spotlight for our CHIC Charity’s “Cordless for a Cause” Event. What these organizations do on a daily basis is inspiring.
Here are their stories.
PATRIOTS AND PAWS
Patriots and Paws offer basic home furnishings for newly acquired residences of Veterans, Active Military, or Reservists and their families throughout Southern California. This incredible organization also offers rescued companion animals to Veteran/Military service members. Their Paws Partners Program has been proven to help reduce stress and trauma in Veteran and Military individuals. They provide myriad of resources to support and guide Veteran and Military personnel as they transition into civilian life. All these services are provided FREE of charge. SERENITY, INC.
Serenity is a non-profit foster and adoption agency. Their mission is to break the cycle of abuse through early intervention programs for child victims within their biological families. Serenity’s goal is to provide healing to children and restoration to families through the provision of treatment, resources and quality care. Serenity programs demonstrate that abused infants and young children can overcome attachment and bonding issues, developmental delays, and emotional scarring using therapeutic strategies in a healthy nurturing environment. Serenity provides quality foster care homes for abused, abandoned and neglected children in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties. To learn more Serenity Inc. Click Here
FIELD of DREAMS LEARNING INC.
Field of Dreams Learning (FoDL) is to service the “whole” student by providing authentic high school diploma education, college and career mentorship, personal growth and leadership skills, and entrepreneurial and internship opportunities. In partnership with Youth Build Charter School of California, the Field of Dreams Learning offers on-site classes from the 9th through the 12th grade. Students can earn a WASC accredited High School Diploma, prepare to enter college and find a career. Students have opportunities to visit local colleges, join a college bridge program, receive support in the college application process, and find internships for career readiness. VOLUNTEERS FOR VETERANS
Volunteers for Veterans provides emergency shelter and crisis management and helps families maintain long-term stability and self-sufficiency. This amazing organization provides assistance with rent, emergency housing and/or repairs, utilities, food, and gas. They also provide assistance to all active and retired Veterans and those who are in transition to civilian life awaiting VA benefits. In one incident, Volunteers for Veterans was able to step in and prevent a veteran from becoming homeless by paying for her rent. Sometimes, Betty Volk, Financial Coordinator of Volunteers for Veterans, will personally deliver checks to Veterans and Military personnel herself. The YMCA of GREATER WHITTIER
The YMCA of Greater Whittier is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The YMCA aims to improve the nation's health and well-being by providing fun and engaging programs and activities that promote wellness and help reduce the risk for disease for all ages. YMCA also offers individuals opportunities to volunteer in support programs, assist with special events, coach Youth Sports, and serve on committees for the Whittier district. SAN GABRIEL / POMONA PARENTS' PLACE
The San Gabriel / Pomona Parents’ Place is the Family Resource Center that provides families, caregivers, and professionals with information and education for infants or toddlers that have developmental delay or disabilities and offer early intervention services via the Early Start program for the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys. They are committed to supporting, promoting and enhancing family-focused services. These are just 6 of the many local goodwill organizations that exist in our community. Every day these organizations provide incredible services and lasting friendships that should not go unnoticed. The CHIC Charity appreciates and thanks all the hard work and effort of these amazing organizations do.
